“Mountain Metals” not trademarked yet, but hopefully someday. The name came from my two-year old self screaming something about “Mary’s mountain” and I’ve held on to it ever since.
I create metal sculptures inspired by nature and whatever’s around. The beginning sculptures were merely soda cans cut and stuck together with “goop” for my dad. I made necklaces, rocket ships, race cars with wheels that turned and airplanes. As I grew older, my methods changed to using copper and galvanized steel wire and glass.
There is something that makes sense when I bend the metal between my fingers. I enjoy working with my hands and creating something so different, or simply creating an imagined piece. I have made various trees and what I call, “Posies” (used for flower arrangements).
More pictures are coming, the first batch of them concerns a tree I made for my grandmother, a year after I stayed in Uganda, I call it “Africafe” (not very original, it’s on the container that it is in).
I always want to expand my talents, I’d love to be proficient in soldering and welding. I suppose my main goal is usually to create something for specific people. I tend to dream a piece around a person, make it, and then give it away.
